LGBTQ Namibia

Summary:

Same Sex Relations: Legal for Female, Illegal for Male with Decriminalization pending
Same Sex Marriage: Not recognised
Changing Gender: Legal, with surgery
Discrimination of LGBTQ: No protection
Social Acceptance: Largely accepted
Travel advice: Discretion with regards to public displays of affection is advised.
While same sex relations are still legally not recognised in Namibia, socially accepted norms make Namibia a safe travel destination for LGBTQ couples and individuals. Namibians by nature are generally conservative, and although LGBTQ is widely accepted, in general, all public displays of affection, of any sexual orientation, are much rarer in Namibia than in most Western countries.

Namibians are naturally quite private and reserved, and visitors are advised to follow suit, respectfully.
