Thailand is one of Asia's most LGBTQ friendly nations. Both male and female same-sex activity is legal in Thailand, and LGBT discrimination in Thailand is illegal however the law still does not officially recognise same-sex marriages and same-sex couples and households headed by same-sex couples are not eligible for the same legal protections available to opposite-sex couples.
Although Thailand is one of the most tolerant countries in Southeast Asia, and has a thriving LGBTQ scene, in general, all public displays of affection, of any sexual orientation, are much rarer in Thailand than in most Western countries. Thais are naturally quite private and reserved and visitors are advised to follow suit.
